5 out of 5 stars Invizimals! What we have been waiting for!   January 15, 2010

Invizimals.

To start off, this game is not a Pokemon clone. This review will be my personal opinion and may be different to what other people thought about the game.

Invizimals is a PlayStation Portable augmented reality video game developed by Novarama, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. It is a collectible creature game, in which the players collect the Invizimal monsters, battle them and train them.

The camera feature is a very nice touch to the game. It makes you feel like these monsters are real and that makes the storyline of the game all the more believable. You find yourself wanting to capture an train as many of these creatures as you can, and it really is excited to see them grow and evolve. The only fault I have with the camera is that sometimes it doesn't recognize things, such as your hand, or when you are blowing on the camera, and sometimes sounds are not picked up easily. All this are small things which may frustrate you during play, but wont put you off the game. These problems are meant to be being fixed in a download pack that is said to be coming out for this game soon.

The storyline is good and believable. You don't really free roam on this game, you just move around the world map and unlock the next part of the story by meeting certain conditions; such as capturing specific Invizimals. I found that it was a little frustrating when I couldn't move on with the story as I was finding it hard to capture a certain monster. However, with practice, or a little help, my frustrations didn't get too high. Personally I also found the acting on the game a little cheesy, but I quite liked that, as I found it more entertaining that way. You have to remember that this game is for the younger generation, and so the predictable and cheesy storyline shouldn't surprise the older player, with that in mind. The length of this game is reasonable, and even after the story mode is completed there is more to do.

Fighting is really fun on this game, and so it should be as it is the main feature of play! So you have your monsters, which are various types. Certain moves don't effect certain monsters so it's just a case of learning what is effective and what is not. You can guard in the game, but this takes stamina, so it's up to you to use it wisely. Moves also cost stamina and certain moves have certain strength levels, so this game is about using your stamina carefully. You wont be able to pull off a move if you run out of stamina. However, stamina recovers over time, and it will recover quickly or slowly depending on how you have levelled up your stamina recovery. It is totally up to you how your monster is trained, as the Invizimal levels up you can choose what to put the stat boost on. The level cap of the monsters is level 12 and they evolve at level 5, and then again at level 9. Your monster will only gain experience in a fight if the other monster is up to 3 levels lower than yours, or obviously higher.

Graphically, the game is superb. It has some of the best Graphics I have seen on psp, the monsters are so detailed and well made. The Invizimals have some really nice designs and have a lot of character.

There is much fun to be had with playing this game online. You have a couple of things you can do online; Fight various battles including bet battles, battles with so many rounds or just friendly battles with one round. You can also chat with players, or challenge players. I must warn you that bet battles are not separated in anyway from friendly battles. So read carefully when you are challenging a player or being challenged, as you may find yourself in a bet fight that you didn't want. Trading online is a nice feature, and you can talk to players while trading to discuss the conditions of the trade. With trading online you can try and obtain Invizimals you are struggling to catch on story mode, which can be a big help. Fighting online can be laggy sometimes so I find it best to only bet fight when you are the host. Other than that, I would say that some people can be very unfair in trades and try to give you something not of equal value for your monster. The great thing about the way the trade screen is set up is that you can view there monster and you can also leave when you want, you don't have to accept the offer. The unfair trades is no fault of the game, it's just people being silly :p
A word of advice, if your looking for the monsters Uberjackal and scissorbeak....just type those name in google images and then you will find the symbols needed to get them.

The game is a star buy in the bundle set with the camera. Already this game is getting big all around the world and has a lot of hype building up around it. If you become a fan of this, you can expect more of the Invizmal world to come.

Personally I found this game really enjoyable and I'm still loving it now and find myself on it for hours. It is a very stylish, addictive game. The style of play will probably be shaping new games to come. Sure it has a few minor issues, but these are over shadowed by the great qualities of this game. At the moment this is my favourite thing to play and I'm 21!

I hope this review was helpful.

I know nothing about these games but, judging by the time spent with it, it's a huge success for an 8 year old girl, although she found it a bit difficult to start with. Now her 10 year old brother wants one too!

This game is so good. I thought it would be for 7 year olds looking at a video but it is actually amazing. You have to Catch and then train invisamals to fight better and it has a very good story line which I won't tell or will ruin the surprise!
