Product Description
EAs Dantes Inferno will take gamers to the western worlds most definitive view of the afterlife as created in the 13th century by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in part one of his epic classic, The Divine Comedy. It tells an adapted story that focuses on delivering a blockbuster 3rd person action game experience while bringing Alighieris depiction of Hell to the medium. Players assume the role of Dante, who descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself. Players will take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle will showcase its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poems vivid descriptions. To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something theyll need as Dante comes face to face with Hells fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hells punishments back on itself. Built on the same technology as the award-winning Dead Space, Dantes Inferno will deliver a fast, fluid and responsive combat experience running at 60 frames per second, a must-have for the action adventure genre. The game is being built by Visceral Games, with the same attention to poli

The Inferno or just a camp fire? February 6, 2010 Mr.Dixon 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
when i first heard about this game i was a little sceptical about it. but after downloading the demo i was in love with the masterpiece of shock and horror. ok some of the ideas in the game do not work that well for example the puzzles are very easy and can just get in the way of the game at times but all the other good things in the game allow this still to be a great game. what i mean by this is the graphics are very good and the cut scenes are just flawless in my opinion another great thing about the game has to be the enemy design they are just really well though out. i think the combat is very satisfying because even though you have a scythe and cross you can rack up endless combinations with the two and then lets not forget that we also have magic in there as well which is a nice touch.
over all i love this game and i think this is one of the gaming highs of the year i would recommend this game to any one who enjoys a good hack and slasher game 10/10 for me.
Surprisingly good game March 16, 2010 Mihael (Brussels, Belgium) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I took this game with a bit of scepticism, since it got good but not stellar reviews. I was very pleasantly surprised how good the game is and it is clearly one of those cases that show how you can't really trust game review sites for a score.
The game has beautiful areas, the boss battles are extremely fun and the vision of hell is almost exactly as I imagined it back when I had to read the Divine Comedy in school. It is a tortured, haunting, nightnmarish place, a christian version of eternal suffering where sins are punished.
The reviews I read criticised the game for it's show of private parts and cleavage, but I find it extremely purist. Flesh eating vagina is something hellish especially for someone that sees sex itself as a sin, when you put it into the appropriate historical context. It is not there for the purpose of being there, it is there for the purpose of showing hell as a place where you pay for your sins. I don't really see how a circle called "Lust" can be shown without depicting sexual torment for those who gave themselves in to the pleasures of the flesh.
Other criticisms I've read are about how similar it is to God of War - which it is, but GOW is a genre defining game and as such, similarities are both good and inevitable. Would you give a lower score to FEAR, because the game works the same way Half Life does? - no ... you accept that the game are in the same genre, that the majority of the systems run the same way as they are supposed to, and give a score based on how the game performs in showing the world it is supposed to, how it immerses you in it and how fun is the process - and that is how this game also should be scored but sadly, it wasn't.
The creators didn't follow the story as it is in the book, but took some liberties, which is a good thing, because although the book is good, it could never be made in an action game - maybe adventure or some other a bit calmer genre. The liberties they take, make the game better.
Sounds and music are haunting and eeringly appropriate for the setting, with screams of the tortured coming from all sides.
If you like action games, and/or you are a fan of Divine comedy, paradise lost or similar, please do disregard the reviews and just go play the game and judge for yourself. You will have a great time playing it.
dante's inferno July 31, 2010 james walshe i have to say i was a little bit sceptical of this game and i had heard so many bad things about it. but i saw it in my local store and i was drawn to it. i picked it up and when i read it, it sounded cool. after i purchased it i went straight home and played it straight trough. i found it really hard to put down. the 9 circles of hell are what you would expect them to be. all in all i found this game to be much better than the god of war titles
Better Than God Of War...? July 21, 2010 josh91bc I absolutely loved this game. I know alot of people say this rips off God Of War, but I completely adore the GOW series and Dante's Inferno offers a different experience, one which might just be better...
First off, the gameplay is fluid, engaging and so much fun. You can customise Dante's powers how you want and combat is brilliantly done here. The graphics are very good, nothing spectacular but it gets the job done. The story is amazing and very original, and the setting is perfectly executed.
The only real gripe I had with this was that it could have been longer - I beat it in around 7 hours. I hope they make a sequel to this cos I really wanna see what happens to Dante - the ending leaves you wanting more!
One to add to the collection, definitely.
The Layers of Hell Never Looked So Good June 16, 2010 B. Cousins (Essex, England) I bought this game after playing the demo and I am very glad I did! The game takes you through the layers of hell as you are chasing the love of your life who has been taken by lucifer. You have to combat your way through the levels and along the way figure out some puzzels to get past certain blockages or to reach higher levels. It plays like god of war but that is where the simularities end. The levels are amazing, the detail put into the game is top notch and you will enjoy looking at the scenery as you chew your way through hell's minions. These range from devils to huge beasts of burden that you can control to break through doors and stomp the enemy into submission. There are some freaky baddies too, like when you encounter the unbaptised babies, these are babies that have claws as hands and there are some baddies that will make you think, what the hell are these :P
Upon fighting death at the beginning and gaining his scythe to combat enemies the fun just gets better and better!
You can also if you choose decide to punish or obsolve these a lot of enemies, this is done when you gain the holy cross, you can then choose to gain levels in holy or unholy skills. These increase in power and you punish/obsolve more enemies and you gain souls from those that you dispatch that can be used to buy certain skills, powers.
As you progress through the game you find out what happened to Dante whist he was on the crusades and how he comes home to find his love slain. These insights are gained as you go through the levels and are told through the tapestry that Dante has sown to his chest, that go into an animated story line.
Along the way you also have Virgil who will give you some advice and inform you of the layer of hell that you are going into. The boss fights are well made and they look very detailed, playing it on normal difficulty they are a challenge but you will overcome them using a mixture of close quarters combat and ranged combat. The spells you can gain along the way also give you a good edge, e.g. healing armour.
There are trophies for the game, which you can get posted onto Facebook if you are inclined by linking your PS3 to sign into faceboook for you. There is replay value as for the holy or unholy skill paths, you will not be able to max out each one on one play through, you should focus on one or the other. I have read that you can gain the crusader costume on completion but I have not reached the end just yet so I do not know for sure :(
